Being a parent is a demanding job. Once your child is diagnosed with psoriasis, the job can get even more complicated. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to help you and your child cope with psoriasis. First, deal with your own emotions. Many parents of children with psoriasis report feeling angry, sad, or guilty about their child's diagnosis. Talk with others about your emotions. A good place learn more is on our parents' forum in the message board.

Next, learn all you can about psoriasis and its treatments. This will help you make informed decisions about your child's health care and and assist you with day-to-day disease management. Also, build a support network for yourself and your family. A strong support system helps to alleviate some of the stress that comes with having a child with a chronic disease. Lastly, remember to let your child be a kid first and a kid with psoriasis second. Your child is much more than his or her disease.
